Thinking Inside the Box: The Trabant nT Concept

Trabant nT conceptElectric, electric, electric — the whole world is going electric! It is probable that Herpa Miniaturmodelle GmbH, a little known company that specializes in creating full sized models, counts on this fact.

The company is responsible for this boxy little wonder, which is entirely electric. The Trabant nT concept was debuted at Frankfurt’s famed IAA.

The vehicle is a more modernized interpretation of the original, classic model, which reached popularity when the Berlin Wall came down. Say what you will about the car, but I can totally dig something that symbolic.

As many have pointed out, the nT concept is very evocative of the 1960s Volkswagen Squareback. I say bravo for that. I love VW and, perhaps strangely, I absolutely adore square, boxy vehicles.

Ergo, I would love to see this stateside.

The UK Studies State — Women Drivers Do Not Park As Well As Men!

woman_driverI’m sure that you have always heard the saying that men are better drivers than women.  Well, in the UK, they have actually studied the parking strategies of women versus men and I have to tell you that men win out in the parking war.  They do – in fact, park better than most women.

Do you know what I think the reason for that is?  Well, I think that it is the fact that women are constantly in a hurry.  Whether they are taking the children somewhere or they are looking to go meet with some friends for lunch, a woman is definitely in a hurry.

Perfect parking is usually last on their list of to do things, so that is the reason I think that women are not as great of parkers as men.

Now, normally, I would attempt to make some type of joke regarding BMW but this time … it is not all that funny.  One of the most expensive brands of cars is actually upping their prices for 2010 and honestly, I do not think that is right.  BMW is raising their prices about 0.4% across the board in North America and while that might not seem like all that much … to be perfectly honest, it is.  It is a lot.

For example, if you are buying yourself a 760Li, the new price is $136,600 — a raise of about $600.00.  For me?  That’s a heck of a lot of money!  While you might not agree because you are one of the lucky ones able to afford it, it is still a huge deal for those of us just trying to get by and keep our BMW status.

Why is BMW doing this?  Well, I can tell you that they are not saying.  No reports have been published on the exact reason why BMW decided to suddenly raise their prices.

IDEA ERAOkay, folks, get ready to read carefully, because this is going to get a little complicated. This car is the work of the I.DE.A Institute. The institute is responsible for many well known vehicles, such as the Daihatsu Move, the Fiat Tipo, and the Nissan Terrano II. They recently debuted this beauty as well, the ERA. It got its unveiling at this years motor show in Geneva. It was truly an event, ending a ten year long absence.

This is the first model in a series of them the Institute will be revealing over the course of the next several years.

The ERA is a two seater roadster with a monocoque steel chassis. It has a sleek, sloping, long hood and curves that have been described as harmonious.

It is both simplistic and exclusive, especially in its materials.

Chevrolet Offers Up a Real “Volt”

Chevrolet VoltWhen General Motors unveiled the Chevrolet Volt, reviewers proclaimed that they also unveiled what the next one hundred years of their automobiles will be like. This is the Chevrolet Volt’s production version, and it is one which is said to be able to offer as much as forty miles worth of gasoline. It is emissions free, and electric driven vehicle that has capability for extended range for hundreds of extra miles.

Bob Boniface is behind the design of the Volt. It is the very first of the E-Flex vehicles which will be ideally following it in the future.

Production is slated to start late next year in 2010 — and yes, that means production for the United States, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for it.

Jeep Renegade conceptWowza, wowza, wowza, friends and neighbors. Just … wow.

You may not be able to tell by looks alone, but this is a Jeep. Actually, it is a Jeep concept. Specifically, it is the Jeep Renegade concept, and it’s just … WOW!

It is the third vehicle concept unveiled by the Chrysler Group, revealed back during the 2008 NAIAS.

Its classification? A Jeep for young people, supposed to go back to basics. Uhm … okay. Whatever, I am not so sure about that, but it is a darn fine looking automobile, all the same.

And in case you are wondering, the concept is green inside and out. It gets its power from a 1.5 liter, 3 cylinder Bluetec diesel, which has been mated with a lithium ion batter pack.

Seat Leon Cupra R

Okay guys, so I never ever knew that VW had a cousin – a sporty cousin at that, but the automaker Seat is actually the brand and it is quite a brand.  Seat is full of all sorts of different hatchbacks and MPVs as well as some models with five doors.  Take the Seat Leon Cupra R – this particular car is actually pretty cool and honestly, I think that it looks amazing!

This little car is actually super powerful and I think that it is going to be one of the most popular cars as it is sporty and cute.  Have you ever noticed that the way that the car looks has something to do with how the sales do?  Well, I have noticed that and I think that the Seat Leon Cupra R will not have any problems selling.

So if you want something sporty and cute – along with powerful, the Seat Leon Cupra R is definitely the car for you!

Citroen RevolteYou guys are really, seriously going to just hate me. One of the reasons I chose to highlight this car this week — it is the Citroen Revolte concept, by the bye — is because of the color shown here. It is absolutely to die for. It is so, so, so — gasp! — pretty!

And actually, I like the design of the concept as well. It was unveiled at the motor show in Frankfurt just recently. A very compact city car, it is inspired by the 2CV, a true classic. It has a rechargeable hybrid drivetrain as well.

Inside, the interior complements the exterior with a multicolored scheme covering the three seats. It is actually made to resemble a lounge — can you get more chic?

Go Green with the Fisker Karma S Concept

Fisker Karma S conceptHave you heard about Fisker Automotive? Do not worry if you haven’t; until quite recently, I had never heard of the manufacturer either.

They are a very special, very exclusive automaker, though, specializing solely in green cars. Recently they unveiled the new addition to their lineup. This came a year after the original unveiling of the Karma concept.

This one, called the Fisker Karma S concept, is a four seater convertible.

It is expected that the car will get to the showroom without showing many changes at all — if, in fact, it shows any.

This seems to be the new generation of automakers. More and more new manufacturers are emerging, and they are trying to go as green as possible. On the one hand, that’s great.

On the other hand, one just has to hope that Henrik Fisker, whose automobiles are both stylish and eco friendly, won’t end up meeting the same fate as Preston Tucker.
